As a Lead Automation Engineer you will play a critical role in shaping the future of our software quality. You will lead the development and implementation of our automation solutions, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, reliable, and performant software. This is a hands-on leadership position where you will mentor junior engineers, contribute to architectural decisions, and drive continuous improvement within our testing processes. You will have the opportunity to work on challenging projects, utilize the latest technologies, and make a significant impact on the success of our products.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for the evaluation, implementation, maintenance, and on-going improvements of our test automation solutions, ensuring standards are followed and the solutions are tailored to deliver quality time and time again
  • Defining detailed test plans / executions / cases to ensure quality and efficiency in delivery of our software.
  • Verifying acceptance criteria using UI and API automated test frameworks such as Cypress
  • You will be a key driver delivering automation training plans and material to ensure the wider team continue to build test automation knowledge and ability
  • Work with software engineers in sprints to conduct a suite of manual and automated tests to ensure quality, maximise defect detection prior to release and verify feature requirements are met
  • You are consistently looking for improvements and efficiencies within automation
  • You will help with promoting and increasing visibility of the QA function and its technical capabilities across the wider teams
  • You will manage and maintain all automation suites / tools / systems adhering to the software development lifecycle


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • An expert on automating UI and API testing using Cypress (or similar)
  • A strong knowledge of debugging tools such as in-browser dev tools, Fiddler or similar
  • Very comfortable using common data formats (JSON, XML and YAML)
  • Strong proficiency with JavaScript and/or TypeScript or relevant language.
  • Experience with standard development tools (SCM; Git or similar. IDE; Visual Studio, VS Code or similar) 
  • Experience working within an agile framework
  • Understanding of API design and API integration
  • A self-starter, have the ability and motivation to learn about new tools and technologies
  • Expert in various test methodologies and what good test automation looks like (functional and non-functional) in supporting the end-to-end testing process
  • Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines, using tools like Azure Pipelines / Releases
  • Great communication and leadership skills
  • Strategic approach to organisation, time management and team delivery
  • Hold an ISTQB certification or equivalent experience


Desirable Skills

  • Any experience in software development (Software Engineer or Frontend Software Engineer)
  • Proficiency with database technologies (SQL Server or Postgres)
  • Demonstrate a level of interest and understanding in C# .NET development
  • Proficiency with C# unit testing frameworks
  • WCAG testing knowledge
  • Good knowledge of frontend testing frameworks (React Testing Library)
  • Knowledge of event driven architecture (RabbitMQ or similar)
  • Understanding of statement and payment files within fintech
